The concept behind StepClever Construction Support aims to develop a seamless delivery of the StepClever areas business support services specifically in the construction sector and to promote the use of StepClever businesses and residents to fulfil the demands of all of the regions regeneration activities.
StepClever Construction Support is a hands-on and electronic solution for the construction sectors needs. The objective is to develop the StepClever construction industry sector enabling it to meet the demands of the 21st century and to successfully identify and develop new opportunities through business forums and through an interactive website.
The buildsefton team is integrated with The People Pool Construction Team with Manager James Flannery, Dave McGuinness, Jean Darcy and Jon Davis.
Three main issues are addressed by StepClever Construction Support.
- local contractors and sub-contractors are not accessing a large enough share of major contracts, and until recently there has been little help for them to improve.
- lead developers are, due to traditional working practises, sourcing suppliers and skills from outside the area, unaware of local employment and procurement opportunities.
- there is a chronic skills shortage in the industry, and yet there are people not currently seeking work, or deterred from entering a sector that is preconceived as a largely manually employed male workforce and a dirty working environment.
