Major construction development is now well under way on Merseyside and StepClever Construction Support intends to take advantage of the continuing spend to benefit the Stepclever areas local businesses and residents.
The core objective of the support is to set up a link between local businesses and Merseyside’s construction programmes that are regenerating the regions infrastructure while delivering on the promise of employment opportunities. The project also promotes local businesses in the Stepclever area to take advantage of increased demand driven by Merseyside’s ongoing exceptional growth.
The support team will help access as much of the multi £ million of construction spend that will occur across Meseyside in the next decade. The intention is to act as a gateway that will link local businesses to public sector and other construction programmes by increasing business competitiveness.
The project will focus on:
● Major contractors and developers working on Merseyside sourcing service and supply businesses locally
● The self-employed and those wishing to become self employed
● New business start ups
● Local contractors/suppliers winning additional business
● Total jobs created and the proportion from targeted regeneration areas
● New sources of labour supply
● Young people and their appropriate preparation for accessing employment
● People on inactive benefits
Stepclever Business Support will engage with the areas construction businesses assisting them to meet the relevant pre-qualification requirements for tendering both for local work and in the wider marketplace.
Stepclever residents will be targeted to encourage the creation of self employment opportunities and access to employment in all aspects of the construction trades.
The Stepclever Construction Support Recruitment & Skills Gateway will operate a dual customer service to employers and residents. Firstly identifying individuals wishing to enter the construction sector and then enabling them to obtain work in growing enterprises. Residents seeking self employment opportunities will be guided to the Stepclever enterprise gateway with the opportunity of training to achieve a Diploma in small Business Financial Management including CIS Card and Support Package.
The aim of this course would be to develop the knowledge and skills of residents in the essential elements of management relating to small enterprise. Skills will be developed in key financial management including accounting, business records, VAT, Inland Revenue, costing and pricing of goods and works.
Stepclever Construction Support will also examine and influence strategic funding for construction training and research into local employers' requirements. Liaising with the Learning and Skills Council, ConstructionSkills and SummitSkills. This process will, in the long-term, create a more responsive and employer-friendly provision.
